HOORAY FOR FREE STUFF!

I am giving away a free ticket to the Women of Virtue conference here in Kansas City THIS weekend, January 29-30, 2010. The Women of Virtue conference is a Friday night/Saturday conference for women all about living a pure life in an impure world. Ticket includes admission to both days of the conference and lunch on Saturday.

All you have to do is leave a comment and you’re automatically entered to win. The winner will be drawn by NOON (CST) on Wednesday, January 27.

Keynote speakers include Dannah Gresh (Author of And the Bride Wore White and Co-Author of Lies Young Women Believe) and Kimberley Hahn (Author of Chosen and Cherished: Biblical Wisdom for Your Marriage).

The conference aims to alert Christians to the intensity of the spiritual assault on our sexuality and to inspire them in a united counter attack. This unique seminar draws both Catholics and Protestants to fight the sexualized culture and to rediscover God’s beautiful plan for marital intimacy. The Men of Valor and Women of Virtue purity conferences are a chance to come together with other Christian men and women to learn, pray and support one another in the battle with temptations of the flesh. Safe for ages 16+ with 24 dynamic breakouts of various topics on Saturday, including a Pure Fashion Show lunch option.

Side note: I will be leading a breakout on the topic of “Surviving and Thriving in a Sex-Filled World,” all about preventing and overcoming a pornography addiction. While there are a couple of breakouts on the topic of spouses dealing with their husband porn addiction, this breakout will be on the only one discussing WOMEN’S addiction to pornography.

Dirty Girls Update

If you’re in the Facebook Group for Dirty Girls, you received some of the following in a message earlier this week. But I wanted to write you all here in a bit more detail.

First, thank you for your partnership with “Dirty Girls: The New Porn Addicts.” I have been so overwhelmed by the support and the feedback this project has received so far.

Over 125 surveys have been submitted since the site’s February 10 launch. These are from women all over the country (and even a few from around the world). What’s amazing about what has been submitted so far is how honest women are being and also, how confirming their stories are of my book idea. However, I have this audacious goal that keeps popping into my heart and my head: 500 surveys by the end of March.

Is that crazy? Possibly, but one thing’s for sure: the need is out there and women are starting to talk about it with each survey, confession and email I receive.

I appreciate your support and ask that you continue to keep this project in the forefront of your prayers and in your blogs, twitters, etc. Keep spreading the word because women are listening and waiting to hear from us that it is okay to come out of the shadows.

I also ask for your prayers as I begin outlining and trying to piece together the direction of this book. The task is exciting but at the same time, a bit daunting. Nothing like anything I’ve done before. I covet your prayers for direction and wisdom as I move forward in this process.

So, I’m Writing a Book… WHAT?!

I know the bondage of sexual sin and addiction. Since the age of 10, I have struggled with some form it. What I’ve noticed in my 14+ years of experience is the lack of resources for women to find freedom. Sure, there’s some of books about porn and sexual addiction for men. But try and find something targeted at women that shows a real woman’s story, biblical and relevant tools for overcoming the struggle that also provides hope, and you will be hard pressed to find anything. I know, because I’ve looked! I spent years in bondage just looking for a way out… and I know if there had been a book out there like this, my struggle would have been shorter-lived. I would have had hope in knowing I wasn’t alone.

And that is what I feel God is calling to me to do.
Write the book that hasn’t yet been written.

The working title right now is, “Dirty Girls: The New Porn Addicts.” Whether it gets picked up by a publisher or not — I know that I will use what I write in the groups I lead, within our counseling department at church and online as a possible e-book.

So that is where I am going to start.

There’s more to come. Including a MASSIVE blog campaign to promote an online survey. The survey is going to be used to help collect statistics and will be vital for gathering other information to help define the direction of my book.

If you’re interested in being a part of this on a grassroots level… ie. blogging like crazy, emailing all your friends… churches… neighbors… families… co-workers… LET ME KNOW IN THE COMMENTS SECTION BELOW and I will be sure you have all the necessary info first (in the next couple weeks).

Thank you for this blog and for allowing me to share my story and my struggles so openly. By doing that you’ve already helped to begin this whole process without you or I even knowing it! I ask for your dedicated prayer as I begin to write the outline and formulate the online survey.

I WOULD LOVE TO HEAR YOUR THOUGHTS AS WELL!
